Construction of phase 1 of multipurpose Thwake dam begins in Ukambani and will be completed in five years

Construction of phase 1 of the multipurpose Thwake dam in Ukambani has begun and will be completed in five years. Irrigation Principal Secretary Fred Sigor says the government is in the final stages of compensating affected land owners and those remaining will be compensated within the next five months. The largest dam in East Africa is expected to provide 134 million liters of water daily to over 1.3 million people from Wote, Kibwezi and Konza.
