All the presidential candidates in the August 8 poll have now been allowed to participate in the repeat poll due on 26 October. A statement released from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC last evening said the decision was taken in view of the High Court ruling directing that the name of Ekuru Aukot be included in the repeat poll. The ruling comes barely 24 hours after NASA presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga declared he would not participate in the repeat poll. The statement further says while the commission cannot compel a candidate to participate in an election, the candidate must submit a duly filled form 24A which Raila has not done. The commission notes its appreciation for the countrywide anxiety arising from the legal interpretation of the matter and is appealing for calm and dialogue from stakeholders to ensure a successful election.
