Junior Malkia Strikers aim for victory against perennial nemesis

National under 20 women’s volleyball team ‘Junior Malkia Strikers ‘must beat perennial nemesis Cameroon today in their final group ‘A’ encounter to qualify for the semifinals of the ongoing Africa Nations championship.

The Junior Malkia Strikers find themselves in a tricky situation after losing by three sets to one to underdogs Nigeria in their second group ‘A’ match played at the Kasarani Indoor gymnasium in Nairobi last evening. After resting for two days the Paul Gitau charges came into the match focused to humble Nigeria and book a ticket to the last four.

Led by Emma Misiko , Pamela Owino , Miriam Ngeywo  and  Delphine Misiko the junior Malkia Strikers bagged the first set 25-19.  Nigeria came back fighting in the second set which they narrowly won 26-24.  Underdogs Nigeria went on to bag the third set 25-18 forcing Kenya’s tactician Paul Gitau to make some changes.

The Junior Malkia Strikers took a seven point lead in the fourth set but unforced errors allowed Nigeria to crawl back and win the set 25-23.   In another match Rwanda trounced Uganda by three straight sets.
