Kiambu leaders urge Ngilu, Waititu to dialogue over controversial charcoal business ban

A section of leaders from Kiambu county are urging governors Charity Ngilu and Ferdinard Waititu to  engage in dialogue and come up with  an amicable solution to the controversial charcoal business ban imposed  by governor Ngilu.  Kiambu women representative Gathoni Wamushomba and Ruiru MP Simon Kingara however urged Kiambu residents not to take retaliatory measures after a lorry transporting charcoal to Kiambu was burnt in Kitui last week. Ngilu maintained that she would continue enforcing the charcoal and sand harvesting ban as passed by the county assembly, following public outcry over the wanton environmental damage the two practices have caused. MPs from Kitui county dismissed the tribal connotations the ban has assumed, saying Kitui County was home to people from all ethnic communities doing legitimate business and coexisting peacefully.
