KRA destroys goods worth 1 million shillings in Eldoret

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has destroyed goods worth 1 million shillings that were seized and stored at a customs warehouse in Eldoret town since last year. KRA Deputy Commissioner who is also the North Rift Regional Coordinator, Florence Otory, presided over the destruction of the goods at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital incinerator in Eldoret town. Addressing the press during the exercise, Ms. Otory said the goods were condemned for noncompliance of various guiding laws. She said that goods destroyed include tobacco and other pharmaceutical products which do not meet the public health standards,plants and seeds which are a threat to the country’s fauna and flora, as well as pornographic materials such as artificial male and female organs which are a threat to moral standards.  The KRA Deputy Commissioner further revealed that they have installed a scanner at the airport which enhances verification and detection of uncustomed goods thereby improving performance.
