Gor Mahia striker Meddie Kagere has been named the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) player of the 2017 season. Kagere was feted during the SJAK gala awards that were held last night in Nairobi. Kagere who netted 13 goals in the 2017 season helped Gor Mahia clinch the Sportpesa Premier League trophy as he beat his team mate Geroge Blackberry Odhiambo to the gong. Kagere also beat Kariobangi Sharks forward Masud Juma. Kariobangi Sharks goalkeeper Jeff Oyemba was named the best goalkeeper of the season beating Patrick Matasi and David Juma.The Coach of the Year award went to Sofapaka FC’s Sam Ssimbwa while George Blackberry Odhiambo of Gor Mahia was named the best midfielder of the year. Another Gor Mahia player Musa Mohhamed was named the best defender beating his compatriot at Gor, Ugandan Godfrey Walusimbi and Posta Rangers FC’s Jockins Atudo.Zoo FC forward Nicholas Kipkurui was feted as the Young Player of the Year while Kariobangi Sharks striker Masoud Juma won the golden boot after scoring 17 goals in the season.
