Police in Nakuru on Sunday dispersed a rowdy crowd that had gathered outside the Nakuru Railways police station demanding the release of Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama. The Member of Parliament spent a second night in police custody after being apprehended by EACC officers on Friday night alongside his lawyer at an entertainment joint in Nakuru town.
According to Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji, Arama is accused of colluding with officers at the lands registry unlawfully and deceitfully caused illegal registration and issuance of a certificate of lease. Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria who was at the station for a second time criticised the police for failing to release Arama on police bond as investigations continue. Gikaria said the police and DPP had failed to explain the reasons for continued detention of the MP. Arama will be arraigned in court tomorrow to face various charges related to irregular acquisition of land in Nakuru town.
