Police urge motorists to be cautious when approaching an accident scene at Chyulu Hills on Mombasa-Nairobi Highway

The National Police Service is advising motorists plying Mombasa – Nairobi to use alternative roads to their destinations due to an accident at Chyulu hills involving a gas tanker and a truck. Motorists from Nairobi to Mombasa are advised to divert at Emali and take the Loitoktok- Taveta road then head to voi. Those coming from Mombasa to Nairobi have been asked to divert at Voi and take the Taveta – Loitokok – Emali road then head to Nairobi. The accident involving a LPG –gas tanker and a truck ferrying a 40 feet container at Chyulu Hills  ignited fire from the leaking gas tanker. The accident that occurred at approximately 2am this morning has blocked both lanes of the road. The leaking gas is highly flammable hence all other persons except emergency services providers are advised to stay away from the scene. Meanwhile efforts are being made to clear the scene and open up the road.
