Professionals from Turkana express displeasure over re-introduction Petroleum and Mining bill

Professionals from the Turkana community have expressed displeasure over the re-introduction of the Petroleum Bill and Mining bill, 2015 which seeks to reduce the community share of mining proceeds from 10 percent to five percent. Led by the Turkana Professional Association (TPA) and Turkana University Students Association (TUSA) leaders, the professionals said that the reduction of the funds will affect the economic status of the already marginalized community.  TPA Secretary General David Ekiru said that reducing the community share from 10 percent to five percent will restrain the equitable privilege to the respective communities. Ekiru further said that the initial 10 percent stood to expose the communities to a constitutionally better social and economic status. The President of Turkana University Student Association Losiru Daniel threatened to seek legal redress if the bill is passed.
