Over 30 students in Meru County are being investigated by police following cases of arson attacks in a number of schools in the area. Area County Commissioner, Wilfred Nyagwanga, has warned that students found culpable would be dealt with according to the law without mercy. Nyagwanga said the affected schools will be reopened under tight security, and students will be scrutinized and an operation will be undertaken on shopping centers around the schools suspected to be conduits for sneaking drugs to students.
In Nyandarua County, area Woman Representative, Faith Wairimu Gitatu blamed the on-going school unrest to poor parenting. Gitatu said she supports corporal punishment in schools as a way of molding a better generation for tomorrow. Meanwhile in Homabay county a dormitory was burnt at Gendia High School in Rachuonyo North in a wave of school fires sweeping across Nyanza. According to the school principal, the the cause of the fire that broke out at around 5am had not been established. The principal added that nothing was salvaged in the fire.
