Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has repossessed part of City Park which had been grabbed. Sonko says a rehabilitation centre which had occupied part of the land was illegally issued an allotment letter by the previous administration. The governor has given 300,000 shillings to the directors of Eden Rehab and asked them to relocate. He however lauded them for the good work it was doing rehabilitating drug addicts, but regretted they were sitting on grabbed public land. He said the county officials who issued the NGO with a fake allotment letter had been sacked over graft allegations. The governor said a borehole that served the residents of Parklands and Westlands and a five-acre flower garden valued at Sh4.5 billion within the city park have also been repossessed. Sonko said he is committed to protecting all the public land and property blaming a cartel of powerful businessmen for the land grabbing menace.
